Post WWI Timeline

In a small group (2-3 students), generate a list of the important events of the Russian Revolution, collapse of China, and independence of India.  Also consider this presentation on the new countries that emerged in the Middle East.  Middle East After WWI

Using your list, create a timeline of these events, color coding by 'category'.  Then, connect ideas that share a 'cause and effect' relationship.

Finally, on your blog, post a response to the following prompt:

Compare the global post-war period - what similarities and what differences can you see develop as the world began to recover from WWI?

Homework 4/1

One of the most challenging parts of teaching World History is the idea of communism vs. capitalism!  One way to consider the concepts is to think about them not as economic systems, but of ways to live your life.  Think about the prompt below and connect them to your understanding of capitalism/communism:

Refresher: capitalism encourages competition and results in economic/social inequality.  Communism encourages equality by providing essential needs to the people (access to water, food, housing, a job).

Think about a time you have been part of a competitive group (a club, a sports team, etc.).   What style of play is better for a group/team - to play like 'capitalists' or like 'communists'?  How could the availability of resources make a difference (personal lessons/training etc) - does everyone have access to this?

Consider the prompt from different perspectives - from a player/participant's POV? a coach? a team owner?  a fan/observer?

Post your thoughtful response on your blog!

If you have 5 minutes to spare - Podcast from NPR that supports this idea of a 'communist team'
NPR Report - NBA's Steve Nash is a selfless socialist?  (podcast is from 2006 - kind of outdated (Steve Nash isn't on the Suns anymore, but its an interesting idea)
